Lord Shiva is the strongest deity in Hinduism, who is known for fulfilling your wishes if you are able to make him happy but will punish you severely for your sins. He is also known as a three-eyes or trilochak since he has three eyes but the third eye is not normally visible. It is said that when his third eye is opened, it destroys everything it sees. That is why he is also known as the God of Destruction. Therefore, we must always serve him and make him happy to receive his blessings and not to anger him. There are many ways through which we can receive his blessings. However, one way which is considered the most powerful one amongst all is chanting ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’.

Origin of ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’

‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’ is considered as one of the most powerful mantras we have in all of the Hindu mythology. The literal meaning of the name of ‘Mahamrityunjaya’ is ‘victory over death’, which means by chanting this mantra, you will be more powerful than death.

According to Hindu mythology, this mantra was first given by Rishi Markendeya. There is a long story attached behind the origin of this mantra. As the story goes, once a powerful king Raja Daksha cursed the moon. So, in order to free the Moon from the curse, Rishi Markendeya gave this mantra to Sati, the daughter of Raja Daksha.

There’s another belief around ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’ which goes as that the mantra was given to Rishi Sukracharya by the Lord Shiva himself, who later passes the mantra to emperor Kshuva. Through this way, the mantra made its journey to the holy Shiva Purana.

If we go by the Hindu mythology, when Raja Daksha cursed the Moon, a lot of sagas along with his own daughter Sati chanted this mantra to protect the moon from the drastic effects of the curse. It is believed that the curse was so strong that the moon was about to die but with the effects of the ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’, he was able to defeat death since lord Shiva himself appeared and saved the moon by putting him on his head.

The strong influence this mantra has on your body, mind, and soul will wipe out all the negativity and evil from around your environment. Therefore, a person going through a lot of difficulties related to physical health issues or mental stress or anxiety should chant this mantra as many times as possible for them throughout a day. It will help the person reduce stress and cure them both mentally and physically. Moreover, you should still chant the mantra even after you have been relieved from your problems since it protects you from all the problems of the present as well as the future. It will protect you from all the misfortune happening which is on its way to harm you.

Another way of chanting this mantra that increases its effects is reciting it while applying vibhuti all over your body. You should also do havanas and chant this mantra. This way, you will get the results you want.

It is also advised that one should chant this mantra for around nine times a day. They should chant it especially before leaving their offices, during the times they are ill and especially before going to bed. Just believe in the supreme deity lord Shiva and he will fix everything for you.
