Sharad Purnima is one of Hindu Calendar's most well-known Purnima(s). Sharad Purnima is thought to be the only day of the year when the moon appears with all the sixteen Kalas (s). Each human trait is associated with a certain Kala in Hinduism, and it is claimed that a complete human personality is created by combining sixteen different Kala(s). Lord Krishna was the entire incarnation of Lord Vishnu, having been born with all sixteen Kala(s). Lord Rama had only twelve Kala when he was born (s).
As a result, worshipping God Chandra on Sharad Purnima is regarded extremely important. Purnimasi fasting for the year begins on the day of Sharad Purnima for newlywed ladies who accept the vow. Sharad Purnima is also known as Sharad Poonam in Gujarat.
On this day, the Moon not only shines with all sixteen Kala(s), but its rays also have therapeutic properties that nourish the body and soul. On the day of Sharad Purnima, it is also said that the moon rays shower nectar. To take advantage of this holy event, Rice-Kheer, a popular Indian sweet dessert composed of cow milk, rice, and sugar, is cooked and kept in moonlight for the entire night on Sharad Purnima. Rice-Kheer, which is thought to be energised and reinforced by moonlight, is consumed and distributed as Prasad among family members in the morning.
Raas Purnima is another name for Sharad Purnima (in the Brij area). Lord Krishna is said to have performed Maha-Raas, the holy love dance, on the day of Sharad Purnima. Hearing the beautiful song of Krishna's flute on the night of Sharad Purnima, the Gopis of Vrindavan snuck away from their homes and families to the forest to dance with Krishna all night. It was on this day that Lord Krishna created a number of Krishnas to follow each of the Gopis. Lord Krishna is claimed to have supernaturally lengthened the night to the length of Lord Brahma's one night, which was billions of human years.
When Kojagara Vrat is performed for the entire day, Sharad Purnima is known as Kojagara Purnima in various locations. Kaumudi Vrat (कौमुदी व्रत) is another name for Kojagara Vrat.
The date of Sharad Purnima in 2021 is Wednesday, October 20.
Timing of Sharad Purnima tithi: October 19th, 7:03 p.m. to October 20th, 8:26 p.m.
It is a harvest festival that celebrates the conclusion of the monsoon season and the beginning of winter. West Bengal, Gujarat, Orissa, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh are the most popular places to celebrate this harvest festival. Because this festival is related with Lord Krishna, it is celebrated with zeal and ardour in the country's northern areas, particularly in Vridavan, Braj, Mathura, and Nathdwara.

Significance of Sharad Purnima
The monsoon season has come to an end. The Sharad Purnima is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, as it marks her birthday, according to numerous religions. The divine full moon day is regarded auspicious.
On this day, many followers celebrate Goddess Lakshmi's birthday with utmost devotion, fasting, singing her hymns, and praying for wealth. The nurturing and healing night has a great deal of power and sanctity.
Anyone who follows this fast abstains from eating solid foods. He must first sample a blend of cold milk and rice flakes after completing the fast. The custom of sipping cold milk during this fast has scientific roots. Sharad ritu ushers in scorching days and chilly nights. In such weather, our bodies' ‘pitta,' or acidity, becomes dominating. A good cure for ‘pitta' or acidity is to drink milk and eat rice flakes.
In addition, according to astrology, the moon is closest to the Earth on this day, and the moon beams include nutritious ingredients. People spend their evenings under the moonlight on Sharad Purnima to benefit from the therapeutic powers of the moon rays. Placing the food under moonlight nourishes both the soul and the body. As a result, Kheer is made and kept under the moonlight for the entire night before being consumed on the next morning.
The moon is banned to be seen directly in some regions, thus it is seen as a reflection on a pitcher containing boiling milk.
