Hariyali Teej 2022

What is hariyali teej known for?

Hariyali Teej falls during the monsoon season in India, when the country is blanketed in lush greenery. This is also why the celebration is known as Hariyali Teej (Green Teej). This celebration is particularly significant for married ladies. Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva are honoured at the occasion. On this day, Lord Shiva is said to have taken Goddess Parvati as his wife. As a result, Goddess Parvati is also known as 'Teej Mata.' The celebration honours the lovely bond of marriage. Hariyali Teej is supposed to erase any negativity from a woman's husband's life. Women who fast on this day are said to be able to have a better relationship with their spouses.

Hariyali Teej falls on Shukla Paksha Tritiya in Shravana month, which is a sacred month dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is marked by different fasts. Women fast throughout the entire day on Hariyali Teej and worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for marital bliss and a good married life.

Married women visit their parental home at Hariyali Teej, wearing new garments, especially green Sari and bangles, and preparing swings to use in pairs while singing Teej songs. A great number of women wear adornments and worship 'Teej Mata' on the day of 'Sawan Teej.' Singing, dancing, and games bring the women together to enjoy the celebration.

On the day of the 'Teej' festival, devotees fast to honour Lord Shiva and his bride Parvati, the holy couple also known as Uma Maheshwar.

Here are some rules that you should keep in mind while fasting for the Hartalika Teej:

·  Married ladies follow the fast in hopes of their husbands living a long life. Unmarried girls in some areas also observe this fast in order to attract the desired man. According to experts, if a married lady observes the fast once, she must do it every year.

·  Women fast for 24 hours without drinking or eating, and only eat after the muhurat ends the next morning, after offering vermilion to Goddess Parvati.

·  Women must offer prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, perform arti for both deities, and pray for their husbands' long lives at the muhurat time of puja.

·  Homemade sweets and other delicacies are offered to the gods during this puja. Halwa, poori, thekwa, gujiya, kheer, coconut laddoo, and fresh fruits are among the items on the menu. In some regions, prepackaged sweets such as khaja, ghewar, and gulab jamun are also included.

·  After completing the evening puja, the ladies who are fasting touch their husbands' feet and ask for blessings.

·  Lord Shiva is offered cow milk, bel batra, dhature ke phool, and leaves as part of the puja ceremony during the puja muhurat. It's said to be one of Lord Shiva's favourites.
